New Technologies at Memorial Same Day Surgery Centers

Tubal Ligation Reversal (TLR):

Sterilization by a tubal ligation does NOT have to be permanent!

Women have two choices to once again enjoy the pleasures of motherhood.  Tubal ligation reversal (TLR) and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) provide excellent outcomes for most women.  The method used to “tie” the tubes often determines the best option, but for most, reversal is the preferred choice.

Fellowship-trained and Board Certified Reproductive Surgeons are able to complete this reversal procedure usually on an outpatient basis and patients are more quickly able return to their routine activities.

This same-day procedure for women yields excellent surgical results with re-opening of one or both tubes in 95% of cases. A pre-surgical consultation and some testing help assure that TLR is the correct choice and that a successful pregnancy is likely. Though the woman’s age is a factor, for women with confirmation of open tubes, our experience has shown a 68% pregnancy rate.

Providing low cost reversal of tubal ligation has been made available through the collaboration of the surgeon and Memorial Same Day Surgery Centers.  A predetermined fee* covers the costs of facilities, surgery, and anesthesia.

This South Florida location is ideal to accommodate out-of-town, as well as local patients. Delightful hotels are conveniently close and couples may vacation at the world's most beautiful beaches during their visits.

*Actual cost will vary for some patients based on an individual’s need for medications and other services

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

When the method used to “tie” a woman’s fallopian tubes lowers the surgical success or other circumstances decrease the advantage of TLR, In Vitro Fertilization can provide the option for conception.

In the most simplistic terms, a woman’s eggs can be made to grow with medications and then retrieved from her ovaries.  Sperm and eggs are allowed to fertilize in an incubator and when adequately developed, some of the embryos are transferred back in to the woman’s womb.  Egg retrieval, like the TLR, is a simple outpatient procedure available at Memorial Same Day Surgery Centers.  For some women, this process offers a faster path to pregnancy than TLR but the costs are generally higher due to medications and advanced technologies and personnel.
While this Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) has been applied over decades for various “infertility” problems, previously “fertile” women who have a sole impediment of having had “tied tubes” enjoy the highest pregnancy rates of any category.

Male Conception after Vasectomy without Vasectomy Reversal:

Similarly to the retrieval of eggs from women, men who have had a vasectomy continue to produce sperm that are readily retrieved with a minor and brief (usually less than 20 minutes) outpatient procedure.  Once obtained, the sperm may be frozen and used later for IVF. This approach, while very effective, has not been well publicized.  Men who reconsider fatherhood after vasectomy may seek additional information from reproductive specialists.

For couples wishing to conceive after sterilization, the best way to make the right choice is to learn more through consultation with a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist.  For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact:
